The Vestry is an elected body which establishes policy and controls facilities and funding in the parish. It plans and conducts parish elections, held annually in January, through which members of the church select new vestry members, and helps set future direction for the parish. We have a 12-member vestry, elected on a three-year cycle. The Senior and Junior Wardens are elected by the Vestry and serve for one-year terms. The Rector serves as a member of the vestry and presides over the vestry meetings.
Vestry members also serve as liaisons on a variety of parish committees.
Additionally, the Vestry has divided the congregation into 12 "houses" named for the 12 tribes of Israel. Each Vestry member acts as the leader of one of these "houses" and communicates directly with the congregational members of their "house." The current Vestry members, their "house", and liaison committee are:

Chairperson:
Vestry Liaison: Chuck Gwilt 766-9101
Outreach
The Outreach Committee is a vehicle by which we are able to share our time, talents, and money with others less fortunate than ourselves. The Outreach Committee coordinates many projects which feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and otherwise demonstrate God's love in action. Specific examples include the winter shelter program: A Night's Welcome, Christmas gifts for families recommended by Social Services, and collections for the Food pantry. It also acts as liaison with community 12 step programs who use our facilities.
Chairperson: Tom Bell 723-0430
Vestry Liaison: Keith Harrington
Planning/Liturgy
This committee meets quarterly, or as need arises, to help evaluate and guide the direction of our worship and parish activities. It also assists our worship through organizating various special events, preparation for holy days, and determining other ways in which we can best express our love of our Lord in our worship.
Chairperson: The Rev. Derek Pringle
Vestry Liaison: Becky Peyton
Christian Formation
The Christian Education Committee works closely with the Director of Christian Education to plan and evaluate programs of Christian education and formation for all ages. From the Sunday nursery to adult classes, special speakers, pageants, and parties, this committee helps enable understanding what it is to be a Christian and how we may grow in our many different ways. The whole committee meets regularly but breaks into subcommittees with more frequent meetings as necessary. Additional activities include Vacation Bible School, seasonal programs in Advent and Lent.
Chairperson: Cindy Bell and Carol Bowers
Vestry Liaison: Mary Overby

Evangelism
The Evangelism Committee's mission is to bring people to Christ. It works with the Communications/Publicity Committee and the Newcomers/Welcoming Committees to make sure that the Church reaches out to the unchurched of the community. This is centered around inviting and welcoming newcomers to Emmanuel, and making sure that the church is a warm and welcoming home for everyone who comes through our doors. The committee also helps with other special events throughout the year.
Chairperson:
Vestry Liaison: Jan Kistler 867-8968
Communications/Publicity
The Communications/Publicity charge is two fold: to facilitate communication within the parish through the newsletter, bulletin, announcements, signage, bulletin boards, etc.; and to attract new people to Emmanuel through brochures, radio, newspapers, special events, etc. In this effort it is important to keep a high visibility in the community and to keep the public informed about the programs and events at Emmanuel.
Chairperson:
Vestry Liaison: Cindy Bell
Newcomers/Welcoming
The job of welcoming newcomers begins with parishioners who volunteer to be Greeters at each of the Sunday services. This is followed up by a home visit from the Newcomer Committee and an invitation to the annual Newcomer's event given by the committee. This committee works with the Parish Greeters, the Evangelism Committee and the Communications Committee to make Emmanuel warm place, where newcomers feel welcome, and where they can quickly become full participating members of the Body of Christ.
Committee Chair: Jan Kistler 867-8968
Vestry Liaison: Jan Kistler 867-8968
Endowment:
The Endowment Board is responsible for publishing materials to advise the congregation as to opportunities for participation in the Emmanuel Endowment Fund. Toward this end, the Board has published "Policies and Guidelines," which detail the procedures for the processing, acknowledgement and administration or bequests and other gifts to the Fund. Bequests may be recognized by Emmanuel's ZEPHYR (legacy) Society.
Chairperson: Carol Colonna
Vestry Liaison: Melanie Gurkin
Memorials/Gifts
This committee is charged with arranging for memorials in the church. They identify needed items which are appropriate for memorials and make such needs known to the vestry and congregation. The committee also provides guidance and recommendations to individuals and families wishing to fund a memorial.
