EMMANUELS VISION
To be a growing, joyful community of faith, filled with people committed to sharing the fruits of their faith with others.
EMMANUELS VALUES
Our faith is Christ centered.
Our calling is to His way of love.
Our ministry is caring for each other and serving God in His world.
This statement, adopted by the Vestry, sums up who we strive to be. We are a faithful people who by word and deed, in all circumstances, try to show forth the power and presence of God in the life of the community.
As Episcopalians we are part of the American branch of the Anglican Communion, that worldwide Catholic and Apostolic Church transmitted to modern times through the Church of England and reformed at the time of the Protestant Reformation. Our worship is scriptural, sacramental, and prayerful. It seeks to express the beauty of our Catholic tradition, together with the freedom and warmth of our Protestant heritage.
You will find among us a healthy diversity. There are families large and small, from many ethnic backgrounds and nationalities, some old Virginians, some new to this area, some military or retired military, young and not so young. Our worship services, programs, and activities reflect this diversity and are designed to meet the needs of the entire parish.
For over a century, Emmanuel Episcopal Church has served God, its members, and the community of Hampton as a cornerstone of faith, fellowship, and outreach, growing from a small family chapel to a large, progressive congregation. We are a friendly congregation, willing to take the first step to ensure that visitors are warmly and genuinely welcomed.
Our parish includes many families of diverse backgrounds bound together by our faith in God, our belief in mutual support, and our stewardship to outreach programs in our community, our diocese, and the world. We have developed strong Christian Education and music programs, both for our children and for the adult members.
And we like to have fun. We take time to share fellowship with each other through a variety of activities such as our parish breakfast on the first Sunday of each month and other social events that strengthen our bonds with one another.

Small group ministry has long been recognized as the key to developing new leadership and incorporating new members into our community of faith. As a parish, we are growing in our understanding of the mutual ministry of laity and clergy, and look forward to exploring new models for ministry in the 21st Century.
